week one, lab
Have you figured anything out?
[ Mizuki's been in here a couple of times over the past few days - as far as investigating, the computer room is simply the most logical place to look for someone from their time period. Books are basically extinct. Even if they haven't been able to get anything out of the old computers yet, they have to at least keep trying.
And they've seen this guy in here a few times, tinkering with something or other. Concentrating on their own plans, they'd left him alone; now, not having much success, they finally approach, in seemingly light spirits. ]
You always seem like you're tinkering on something in here.

I look that busy, huh?
[Ignoring the fact that it's nigh impossible to break his concentration once he's buried in a project... which they've probably seen multiple times now... BUT who asked.
He lets out a sigh, switching the tool off.]
Sorry. I wish I had good news for you, but I can't say I'm the right person to ask. However these computers are made, it's with a type of technology I don't have at home. I'm just having to feel it out for now. It's part of why I've been in here this whole time.
[He gives a gentle shrug, smile apologetic. Sorry, friend.]
But hey, you should try asking some of the others around here if you want something more concrete. Hiro, the kid - he's pretty bright. He's got some ideas.
...Ah, geeze, what am I doing-- [With a natural flourish, he reaches over the back of his chair to extend his hand to shake, his grin finally meeting his eyes.] It's Guy. Guy Cecil.
Nice to meet you.
no subject
Don't worry about all that. I was just asking because I've been curious about it. Frankly, if you did have good news, I have to assume you'd have already told us, anyway. But it never hurts to ask, right?
[ they smile back, shaking his hand with the grip of someone who definitely goes to a lot of business meetings. ]
Mizuki Ioti - but just Mizuki is fine. It's nice to meet you, too, Cecil-kun - too bad about the circumstances. Where are you from?
[ a place without computers...? must be really out in the country somewhere... ]
he got the kun honorific im so tickled
[Firm handshake, very nice. His isn't without a formal feel to it, though it's here and gone before he's right back to a casual seat against his chair, spinning it around proper to face Mizuki.]
It sure is an interesting mess. But it is what it is right now. It's not like we have the time to be upset about it when we might as well be taking some sort of action.
Anyway. Does Malkuth ring any bells? [He's assuming that's a no. He's only really met one other person that didn't look or act completely, utterly foreign. But maybe they could surprise him.]
everyone younger than them gets kun!! even one year...
[ it's more concerning that the name he offers is totally unfamiliar. They bring a hand to their chin, puzzled. ]
"Malkuth?" Is that... somewhere in Europe, maybe? No, I should still have heard of it...
HE'S ALMOST 24 LET HIM LIVE!!!!!!
If you're not comfortable with it, though, just say so.
[He doesn't mind keeping the titles for other people, but it still feels so weird to have them used on himself.]
We're in the same boat, then. The Malkuth Empire is the largest country in the northern part of the known world, but no one here's really been familiar with it.
What about Europe? Is it a country? Continent?
HE HAS A BABY FACE
[ Mizuki seems slightly bewildered. Is this an act? If it is an act, what could he possibly be trying to achieve with it? There's not much to gain in pretending to be that clueless. Or from another world entirely. ]
... You really don't know?
[ maybe they're an idiot for taking this seriously; nonetheless, they study his face intently, trying to decide if he's lying or not. ]
classic JRPG syndrome
I'm afraid I don't. Sorry.
I could see if I could draw out the continents I do know, if that would help you out. Maybe you'll recognize something that way.
no subject
No... That's all right. I don't think I would. [ if he's lying now, he could easily fake a map, too. The strange part is that Mizuki doesn't think he is. They have no idea how to rationalize what's happening. ] We're from completely different worlds - that's the logical explanation for this. But we're both human. Some kind of alternate dimension, maybe...?
[ brow furrowing. ]
This is much more outrageous than I realized. Maybe I'm still dreaming...
no subject
[It lost its charm after the second day here, really.]
One of the other guys in here mentioned alternate dimensions, too. Something about wormholes and multiverse theory. Kind of out there, but given that our hosts are at least claiming to be gods, it gives some kind of power to their tale. Either they're divine, or they've got a hold of something way bigger than what we're all used to. That gives them an upper hand, either way.
no subject
It sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie... but since I'm living it, I suppose I have no choice but to accept it.
[ it's in Mizuki's nature to ponder over things and try and find the best and most straightforward answer; this is going to bother them for a while, the not knowing and not understanding. Maybe they can ask one of the gods about it. The only problem is that they don't trust the gods, either. In the end, they just sigh, pinching the bridge of their nose. ]
My life gets more and more crazy! Ahh. I'm ready for a vacation after this. [ their arms drop back down to their sides, and they shake their head, trying to let go of the topic for the time being. Focus on the present. ] Enough of that. Guy-kun, did you hurt your arm?
no subject
Guy's smile falls a bit.]
Ah. You did notice, then. [He glances down for a moment, at his dead fish of a hand, before shrugging half-heartedly.] Don't worry, it doesn't hurt.
I found out the hard way that our new rule also applies to food and drink. One cup of tea later and it's like my whole arm is gone.
When Patience said no means no, I suppose she really meant it.
no subject
You got that just from taking a cup of tea? That punishment really doesn't fit the crime.
[ so they can take away the function of entire body parts. Mizuki hums. ]
Can I take a look at it?
no subject
[With their request, he simply turns his chair to face them more openly, awkwardly adjusting his arm for them to examine. It's odd, trying to position it without accidentally injuring himself from the lack of sensation.]
Sure, go ahead.
It's not showing signs of rot, as far as I can tell. I just can't feel or move anything.
no subject
[ Mizuki's not a doctor or anything; nonetheless, they take his arm, gingerly feeling for some sort of implant or something along those lines. ]
They haven't attached anything to us, as far as I can tell. Some kind of subdermal mechanism, maybe...?
no subject
Hahah-- what, you mean some sort of machine that just turns the nerves off?
Interesting idea, though I'm not sure how much I want to think about the implications of that.
